Sonnet I

It started with this one postcard he sent
Only months after graduating school
Just a hello from an old-fashioned gent
Who couldn't help playing the lovesick fool

They had conversations all on paper
In words that connected (letters and soul)
Friends called it just a nostalgic caper
But a passion grew that took them both whole

She'd wait by the mailbox to save some time
The mailmen both ways knew of this affair
One day, he showed up-- no reason, no rhyme
And her heart grew wings and took to the air

A magical romance started that year
Today, one always has the other near
